For the first time in their life they are aware of a certain heaviness inside of them. Even though the feel of their weapons in their hands is familiar and the coldness of the small chains against their skin almost soothing, they cannot shake this feeling at all. And yes, there is a big difference between killing pompous drug lords, overzealous crime bosses and stupid politicians and what is awaiting them now. If they ever had a reason to shine, that time is now. They should not fall back into the careless simplicity of killing, their flawless reputation or the harsh way they have been trained.
For once they had to put their heart and soul into it. After all, there was a lot at stake this time. A future, a purpose, a person.
And that person is sitting next to them, driving the car. This ridiculously handsome man who has been their target at first and an ally after. And now he became more than just that and, if anything, Enkidu wants to cling to that future more than ever. They want their heart to be filled with warmth, with joy and they want to wake up feeling butterflies in their stomach. But, most of all, Enkidu really wants Edmond to be happy.
Still, they keep their hands to themselves and their eyes focused on the road.
"He probably knows we're coming together. Still, I think it is better to drop me off a couple of streets away from the building." Enkidu's voice sounds steady. "The Saint will surround himself with lackeys." Now they don't want to tell him to be careful or to come back in one piece. After all, Edmond Dantes isn't a child. Still, the words are on the tip of their tongue.
"Try to stall the confrontation a little. I shall be quick."
