CHARACTER
NAME: Enkidu
CANON: Fate / Grand Order
CANON POINT: After the 7th Singularity (Babylonia)
AGE: Old (approx 5000 years or so)
BACKGROUND: wiki page with in depth information about their personality and abilities | wiki page with in depth information about stats and everything else in the (mobile) game itself | Enkidu's role in the Epic of Gilgamesh

PERSONALITY:
They started their life as nothing but a beast, a mindless creature made by the gods from clay (their name literally means ‘Enki’s creation’ (Enki being the god of Earth and such)) with the single purpose of bringing a certain rebellious half-god king of heroes back to the gods. At the very beginning Enkidu did not possess any sort of intelligence, so the gods sent down a sacred prostitute to keep them company for 7 days and 7 nights. Her presence has been one of the main reasons that Enkidu has made the choice to walk alongside men instead of staying a beast. With that they used their shapeshifting abilities to take on a human form, resembling that of the prostitute out of respect. By making this important choice they have also lost a significant amount of their power.

Because possessing a human form still doesn’t mean they are truly human, Enkidu gives themselves a goal to gain enough human wisdom until they are able to face Gilgamesh. That is how they have developed a fierce desire to stay intellectually stimulated during situations. And to make sure that their intellect stays stimulated they are very curious and derive a lot of joy out of speaking to humans. Next to that they are also extremely wilful. A good example of this happens during one of the events in the game where they are locked up inside a prison cell with bookcases against the wall. The protagonist battles them and offers them freedom. Enkidu declines and prefers to read all the books above their own freedom. When their need for intellectual stimulation isn’t sated they will let the other know without beating around the bush. For instance, when you ‘ascend’ them in game they let their Master know they’re happy with all the power they gained but it is disappointing that they weren’t able to grow intellectually and spiritually. Really, they are quite straight forward when they give their opinion. Enkidu does what Enkidu wants to do. Being so close to nature makes them a very free spirit.

Still, what is kind of a peculiar thing about them since they seem to value humanity quite a bit, is that they do not consider humans important enough to be offered protection (with the exception of the human that is their Master, of course). The reason for this is that Enkidu considers themselves closer to nature, while humans consider themselves above nature because they possess intelligence. So when a human is on fire and a tree is on fire, Enkidu will take care of the tree first. In the mobile game this doesn’t show as much, but from their ‘original’ canon they flat out reject an offer for power and fame and contract themselves to a wounded chimera-wolf.

Even though Enkidu poses as a human and wants to gain knowledge about being a human and how humans work, they are very well aware of what they truly are. They do not feel any sadness over it either, there is no identity problem, no dark thoughts where they reject what they once were. When Enkidu speaks to their Master they refer to that they are ‘merely a weapon that can be used in any way they want’. They are also very aware of being made of clay and that with all the knowledge they might gain, that their soul will never grow. Their soul is that of a weapon made for fighting and that is why they exist.

On the outside they seem a calm, kind, nature loving human but when it comes to battle situations they absolutely do not hold back. Enkidu’s strength is quite fearful.

When it comes to being social and bonds they have with others there is, of course, their Master. They are show obedience towards them and refer more than once as themselves as a weapon, as bonds grow stronger they eventually declare that they cannot find the words for the fact that their Master is still willing to to put so much effort in them. All they promise is that they will show it on the battlefield. Next to that there is a point where they tell their Master that they cannot pinpoint something they truly like, since the one thing they liked cannot be replaced (that being Gilgamesh). Here it shows how their (quite tragic) death has affected them and how they fall back on their purpose as a divine weapon.
Considering all of this, it is fun to notice that they’ve also worked it a little into the game itself. Enkidu is quite powerful but isn’t a Servant that does well in group battles when it comes to offering support. All of their skills are used to enhance themselves and serve their role as a weapon. Also certain points get distributed randomly that might refer to the fact that Enkidu does what Enkidu wants to do.

Their most important bond of all is of course the one they forged with the one person who is the entire reason behind their creation. Because instead of bringing Gilgamesh back to the gods they became his friend instead. What is funny is that by making that choice, they have given a completely different spin to their function as the chain that has to connect the heavens and the earth (the gods and humanity). Because, in a way they did manage to connect Gilgamesh to the gods by becoming their friend, thus they still remain that chain that holds them together. The both of them also grew because of their friendship. Gilgamesh became a better king to his people because of Enkidu pulling him away from the isolated life he led. Enkidu rose above being human and gained a heart and a true identity.

POWERS/ABILITIES:
Because of the fact they are a weapon made by the gods themselves their power is ridiculous. In their role as a Heroic Spirit it seems not much of that power is lost. They fight by summoning chains from their hands and the ground.

- Shapeshifting: Being the divine lump of clay that they are, they are able to alter their size and form whenever they want.

- Self-restoration / Consummated Shape: By using the earth beneath their feet and the energy that comes from said earth, they are able to regenerate themselves after receiving a significant amount of damage.

- Presence Detection: This ability makes them able to sense other Servants from miles away and identify them as well. They pick up these signals through the ground. (this is the only ability that will be nerfed significantly)

- Communicating with Animals: They are able to speak the language of animals and because of that they are able to communicate with them. With that they are able to serve as a translator between their master and the animals involved.

- Enuma Elish: This is their main noble phantasm. Enkidu chains the enemy down to the ground, changes their entire body into a weapon to launch themselves at them.

- Age of Babylon: An attack quite similar to Gilgamesh’s Gates of Babylon where Enkidu summons an entire collection of weapons from the ground. It’s purpose is also to match the strength of Gilgamesh’s attack.
